Company Leave Settings

The Company Leave Settings page defines the default leave settings for all new employees set up within your system.

The settings that wait here for you the first time you enter the page are, generally speaking, universally-ready for any account. They are based off the minimum legal requirements, and general assumptions of the type of staff you employ.

Basics:

Realistically, there are only two questions you need to ask yourself when entering this page.

Firstly, "Do we (Does this employer) employ more casual staff or permanent staff?".

Secondly, "Do most of the staff have minimum or standard working hours, or do they work entirely all over the show?"

If the answer to the first question is casual, then you should tick the box "Pay as you go" under the "Standard Leave Entitlement" header. Otherwise, leave it as it is.

If the answer to the second question is all over the show, then you should tick the box "Use Default Hourly Rate for Annual Leave Pay" under the "Leave Default Pay Rate". Otherwise, leave it as it is. Note that ideally, employees should have minimum hours in their contract, so this option should almost never be used.

Detailed:

In addition to the basics noted above, you can fully-customize the defaults within the page here. For example, you can give all employees five weeks of annual leave instead of four, disable and enable auto-renewal, and so much more. Below are some further details on the less self-explanatory changes you can make or enable.

You can set up a company anniversary date here by utilizing the "or on _________ and every year on that date" option. A company anniversary date may be useful to businesses that shut down over the Christmas holiday period.

You can change the "Region for the Anniversary" if this was misentered when signing up.

Under "Leave Default Pay Rate" you can untick "Use Relevant Hourly Rate for Calculating Other Leave Pay" if you want to ensure that you never mess up paying the Average Daily Pay for Other Paid Leave entitlements for all staff. Note that there are other ways of doing this, but think of this option as insurance that will keep you from ever not paying the Average Daily Pay for new staff.

Under "Other Leave Entitlement" you can enable additional types of leave within the system, and set the criterias for them there. Note that the functionality for those leave types come as you see them. Which means that if you have more complex requirements for additional leave, then these may not suit.
